Until I was 30, Netball was only a distant memory from when I was 14!
I did the usual things when I was young like working, shopping, nightclubbing, drinking, occasional holidays, to eventually finding home bliss. Then I became a couch potato!!! Watching the soaps and all the rubbish that was on TV. As I thought at the time, all was great, I needed nothing in my life, apart from a crane to lift me off the settee!!!! Then after loosing much weight I discovered netball.
From that point, my whole life changed around, which started with one half hour game a week culminating to playing 4 times a week plus getting into the County Squad. Accolade!!!! I could sit and write about what happened from there on, but it would probably sound like a lot of similar stories and more importantly, pretty boring for you guys.
I am so proud to be a part of this sport. I have won so many trophies, played in so many places, met some incredible people, it has been an absolute joy to be involved and it still is. I have been taught so much by my peers and am still learning now.
Northants has had and still has, so many enthusiastic, motivated, skilled personnel within their County, it goes without saying that it is a pleasure to experience all of this and have worked with so many influencing people.
We all need to have a vision and to see Netball progress as it has over the years is something I never expected to see. Who would have thought that we would be watching Top League netball on Sky television on a regular basis!
The game has come so far, it is still developing and growing, be a part of it and embrace this wonderful sport.
I started playing netball some 25 years ago; my playing history has gone from participating in one league within the county to representing the county. I currently sit on Rushden Netball League committee, head the Excel Talent Development Group, am Vice Chair and Excel Development Officer for Northants County, head scout and selector for Northamptonshire, sit on the Regional Talent Sub Group and am a general member of the East Midlands Regional Management Board.
I am a B award umpire and have enjoyed officiating at many levels from schools through to regional matches.
I started my coaching some 12 years ago at U16 County, this lead me to take a change in my career path. I have over these years enjoyed coaching all ages’ groups and abilities, starting at year 7 at school through to Premier League and on occasions Super League.
I am at present undertaking UKCC level 3 in coaching and am looking forward to developing the Excel Academies in the county to enable all districts to have access to this programme.
All I can say that as Treasurer I am here to support the Committee and that I admire all the time and effort they all put in. I can see how committed they all are.
Umpiring Secretary - Denise Green
I have been involved with the Excel programme from the start both as Head coach for U14 group and more recently as coach mentor which after coaching Northants Senior County side for 4 years has allowed me to still be involved with coaching and development of netball players at county level within Northants. I have coached Leamington Netball club for 5 years in the West Midlands regional league and presently taking my Level 3 coaching award.
